Mithila Palkar is the 24-year-old is one of India’s few YouTube discoveries whose career is expanding beyond the Internet.
Ask Palkar about what makes her click with the Indian millennial audience and she laughs, “I don’t know! But I am so overwhelmed that they do enjoy my work, and I think it’s because I speak their language.” She says a character like Meera would resonate even with young men finding the courage to pursue their dreams.
She is an Indian actress known for her characters in the web series ‘Girl In The City’ and ‘Little Things’.She first came into limelight by a cup song which she uploaded on YouTube which went viral. She also appeared in the Star Pravah advertisement Maharashtra Desha.Mithila decided to act in cinemas in 2014. She started her career with a short film called “Majha Honeymoon” which was showcased in 16th Mumbai Film Festival. She was then a part of the Hindi film Katti-Batti where she played role of Imran Khan’s sister. She went viral with her cup song “Hi Chal Turu Turu”. As she had explained in interviews later, the idea of cup song was inspired by Anna Kendrick’s cup song. Later on she became Youtube sensation for other series like ‘Girl In The City’ and ‘Little Things‘ . She has sung a song named “Maharashtra Desha” in association with Bhartiya Digital Party (BhaDiPa). The song was released on 1 May which also happens to be Maharashtra day. She also made brief appearances in other BhaDiPa shown and youtube live events hosted on their youtube channel. She has starred along with Amey Wagh in a Marathi movie called Muramba which released on 2 June 2017.
She’s no stranger to the concept of pursuing a passion. With no actors in the family — and a sister who has a Ph. D in neuroscience — it took a lot of convincing for her family to be on board with her plans. “I was 12 when I was on stage for the first time, and had an epiphany that this is what I wanted to do. But my grandfather’s deal was that I finish graduation, then do whatever I want.”
After completing a major in advertising, Palkar joined ‘Q’ Theatre Productions (QTP), and worked behind the scenes on their annual youth theatre festival, Thespo. “But it just felt unfair,” she says, about having to ignore the acting bug for long. She soon started auditioning and landed a supporting role in Nikkhil Advani’s Katti Batti as Imran Khan’s sister.
Her wide range of talent was visible even in those advertisements that she did in her initial years. She has a long way to go in the entertainment industry and considering the way Mithila’s career has shaped up so far, we can be sure that we’ll be watching this actor for a long time.
